Ah, it feels so good to get back into the groove of drawing. I’ve been so caught up in academic things that I hadn’t had a chance to since February! This piece is done in Micron ink on a 16×20″ bristol board panel. I’ll be drawing live at another artsy event soon, so I think I’ll finish her up there. (More on that soon)

Onto the details. My favorite.

Underground 4.

So, wow. What can I say? The Underground Interactive Showcase was an experience I’ll never forget. I’ve never really drawn in front of anyone, aside from my significant other, and a few close friends, so drawing live in front of hundreds of strangers was a bit intimidating. Much to my surprise, my stage-fright didn’t last long! From the start, I felt completely in my element, and my love of drawing, paired with all the sweet people who stopped by to say hi, pick up a print, or just watch me, just absolutely floored me. There are a few special people that will always stand out in my mind when I look back on this night. I must also give thanks to the passionate, talented people at Art Love Magic for organizing these unique events, and giving artists like myself a platform to share my work.

I was so caught up with everything, that I failed to get many photos of the event. Thien Vuong’s coverage of the show beautifully captures the passion and energy that make Underground so special. (You can get a quick glimpse of my area around 4:44)

Teeny Canvas.

I’ve had these tiny canvases and easels in my arsenal for a while now, but only recently began to experiment with them. I love how tiny and delicate they are.

Line by line.

I think this may be my favorite illustration (as far as girls go) yet. She was conceived after a Tim Burton and Beats Antique marathon. Can you tell?

I’ve just added her, and a couple other new prints to the shop. For the rest of January, take 20% off your order by using coupon code “BIRTHDAYGIRL2012″.

Link Love: January 2012

  • This “probable cause” tote bag by Lesley Hornbeck will soon be mine.
  • My brain twin Serpenthes’ 11 Observations from 2011  is definitely worth a read!
  • I love Chloe’s clever idea to share some facts about herself through spontaneous picture-taking.
  • I’ve been eying TokyoMilk’s Femme Fatale collection, but can’t seem to decide which to try first!
  • Maggie’s Mighty Life List is incredibly inspiring. I’m in the process of making my own.

The sum of all things.

UNDERGROUND Art Show.

I’m pleased to announce that I was chosen as one of the participating artists for one of Dallas’ largest and most anticipated art events, UNDERGROUND! February 11, 2012 will mark the event’s 4th year, and is rumored to be it’s largest yet. The event will take place in the Janette Kennedy Gallery, and surrounding vicinity on the main floor of Southside at Lamar in downtown Dallas.

More about Underground:

Underground is an annual event that has a tradition of being the biggest, loudest, and freshest show ArtLoveMagic does every year at South Side On Lamar. Our purpose is to showcase new and uniquely talented artists of various mediums and performances along with established, experienced artists within the same room as they create live and sometimes collaboratively. This diverse presentation keeps audiences engaged from beginning to end during the four hour event.

Local video production company Ufilmhouse made these amazing videos from their footage of Underground 2010 & 2011. I think they perfectly encompass the essence of what makes the event so unique.

Artists and details are still being confirmed, but in the meantime, you can follow the event on Facebook, as well as my Facebook page. I’ll post the flier and more information as it becomes available to me.

Thank you for your support. <3

Absence makes the art grow…

Staying true to tradition, I’ve gone on an art hiatus in lieu of my studies for the last 3 months, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel. (Winter Break!)

Expect a ridiculous amount of posts in about a month.

xoxo
