Raspberry Swirl.
Ah, it feels so good to get back into the groove of drawing. I’ve been so caught up in academic things that I hadn’t had a chance to since February! This piece is done in Micron ink on a 16×20″ bristol board panel. I’ll be drawing live at another artsy event soon, so I think I’ll finish her up there. (More on that soon)
Onto the details. My favorite.
Underground 4.

So, wow. What can I say? The Underground Interactive Showcase was an experience I’ll never forget. I’ve never really drawn in front of anyone, aside from my significant other, and a few close friends, so drawing live in front of hundreds of strangers was a bit intimidating. Much to my surprise, my stage-fright didn’t last long! From the start, I felt completely in my element, and my love of drawing, paired with all the sweet people who stopped by to say hi, pick up a print, or just watch me, just absolutely floored me. There are a few special people that will always stand out in my mind when I look back on this night. I must also give thanks to the passionate, talented people at Art Love Magic for organizing these unique events, and giving artists like myself a platform to share my work.
I was so caught up with everything, that I failed to get many photos of the event. Thien Vuong’s coverage of the show beautifully captures the passion and energy that make Underground so special. (You can get a quick glimpse of my area around 4:44)

Teeny Canvas.
I’ve had these tiny canvases and easels in my arsenal for a while now, but only recently began to experiment with them. I love how tiny and delicate they are.
Line by line.

I think this may be my favorite illustration (as far as girls go) yet. She was conceived after a Tim Burton and Beats Antique marathon. Can you tell?
I’ve just added her, and a couple other new prints to the shop. For the rest of January, take 20% off your order by using coupon code “BIRTHDAYGIRL2012″.

Analog Signal.
I’ve been a terrible blogger, but I hope to remedy that with an obnoxious amount of posts in the coming weeks. I think the Texas heatwave has just about obliterated my creativity for now. Is it October yet?

Vinculum.
This was my main donation for the Silent Auction last month. I also donated this oval wooden panel.

See progress photos here.
Thank you.

The Flood of Emotion Fundraiser was a success! I was really pleased to find out that both my pieces sold. I donated the above piece, as well as an oval wooden panel adorned in similar doodles. In total, the night raised over $10,000 to aid the victims of Japan’s recent natural disasters. I was really touched by all the positive feedback I received throughout the night, and I had the pleasure of meeting so many humble, but immensely talented people along the way. I was glad to be a part of it! I look forward to making an effort to get my work out there locally. It’s a bit daunting after being incognito so long, but it’s nice to shake things up a bit.
Thank you to all my friends who came out to support me. It meant a lot to me.
See more photos from the Fundraiser on my Facebook page.

Project 22×28.

This will be my largest illustration so far at 22×28″. I typically draw on 11×14 bristol board. This is about 2 hours in…
The Stripmall Architecture Project, Part II.

Limited Edition Wooden Box Set (Almost Sold Out! Purchase yours here.)

I can’t take much credit for these, because it was The Mystery Parade who turned my doodles into this stunning visual magic.
A skull without a mandible is only a cranium.
Can you believe I’ve never drawn a skull until this weekend? It was always one of those things that intimidated me for some reason. I’m very pleased with it!

I’m thinking about redoing the heart and brain so the entire series looks more consistent. I haνe one more skull (this one with more nerνe endings, yay.) to share soon.

P.S. Limited Edition prints of this piece are now aνailable in my shop, specially priced for Halloween at just $10.
Deep Ellum Art Walk 2010.
I have six pieces hanging in 2826 Arnetic as part of the Deep Ellum Artwalk in Downtown Dallas tonight! Above is a map of all the participating venues. I’d love to see you out! xoxo
Wallflowers & Networking.

Lately my mind has been covered in flora. I can’t get enough of these drawings. I’m working diligently at finding the perfect frames for this series. There are some empty spots on some Dallas walls that need filling.

These have been a delight to make! As soon as my shipment of glass arrives (hopefully next week), a small army of these beauties will be listed in my shop. Each black patina frame will contain a miniature, one-of-a-kind illustration by me! I’ll be offering these in at least two sizes. The one shown here is a bold piece at 2×2″.

This piece is especially meaningful to me. I drew it in honor of Valentina Grace, the beautiful daughter of a dear friend of mine.

I am now a proud member of the Behance Network. I especially adore the clean layout, and the freedom of posting projects that contain different media. I’m in the presence of SO many talented artists. It’s impossible not to feel inspired.
The Passage of Air.
I must admit, this is my favorite illustration of the series thus far. I picked up some much thicker Micron pens to experiment with, and I’m really loving the outcome. I definitely plan to do more high contrast drawings in the future!
I’ve got two grueling days of finals & paper writing ahead of me, then I’ll be hunched over my bristol board working on some custom orders, and working on getting my favorite pieces framed for art shows in my (near) future. More on that soon!

Limited Edition Print available in my shop!
Organ Donor.
We weren’t exactly rich when I was growing up, but there was one thing my parents let me buy unlimited amounts of-books! I spent my formative years with my face buried in vintage anatomy textbooks, botany and nature picture books and glorious, dusty encyclopedias. I’ve always been fascinated to view an individual artist’s interpretation of the same seemingly inflexible subject matter…here is a dose of mine. I have a few more to show you very soon.

If you’d like to see me draw a particular organ or part of the body, I’d love to hear your ideas.

Special thanks to Ryan Coseboom of Stripmall Architecture for this wonderful treat. I can’t wait to see more!
Radium Girls & Viscera.
Ah, summer. Can you believe we are already in the triple digits this week? A luxurious night at Hotel ZaZa, summer nights on the city outskirts with my best friends, the stars and a pitcher of sangria, and a weekend trip to Austin are in my near future. What are your plans for the summer?

This drawing was inspired by the Radium Girls, sparked by the lyrics of Stripmall Architecture.
The Radium Girls were a group of female factory workers who contracted radiation poisoning from painting watch dials with glow-in-the-dark paint at the United States Radium factory in Orange, New Jersey around 1917. The women, who had been told the paint was harmless, ingested deadly amounts of radium by licking their paintbrushes to sharpen them; some also painted their fingernails with the glowing substance.
I’m still working on a new style of necklaces, but the process has been a bit slow due to my perfectionist nature. I’ll post some progress photos soon. I’m in search of a swan-necked creature to model them for me.
I’m updating the shop over the weekend. My newest pieces will be available as prints (limited edition of 60) very soon. I’ll be signing and numbering everything from now on. I think it’s a lovely, personal touch.
Much love.
Audrey Penven.
Photographer Audrey Penven recently took some fabulous photos of Stripmall Architecture using a projector and my doodles. I love the end result! It’s such a privilege to be associated with such talented, creative people.
